Laser class 4 – safety is mandatory

The fiber laser belongs to the highest laser class. We rent out not just the device, but the complete, safe set.

Eye protection mandatoryLaser safety goggles matching the 1080 nm wavelength – included in the safety package.
Enclose the laser areaMobile safety screens, warning lights and marking of the laser area.
Rental requirement: proof of LSORental only to businesses with a laser safety officer (LSO) – proof before handover. Plus your own risk assessment. Device and safety instruction (€120 net) at our yard.
Rental only with a laser safety officer (LSO): We only hand over the class 4 laser against proof of an LSO (before handover). Without an LSO, one must be trained beforehand.

Device and safety instruction – €120 net (one-time, mandatory, not included): Before the first rental we show you the safe operation of this device at our yard in Hanhofen – incl. practice surfaces for testing. Only required for the first rental; for follow-up rentals it is no longer needed.

Important: this instruction is not a substitute for a laser safety officer (LSO) and the risk assessment in your own business. As the operator at the place of use you organise the LSO, risk assessment, laser area and the (annual) instruction of your staff yourself (OStrV, TROS Laserstrahlung, DGUV 303-005).

Applications

What laser cleaning is suited for

Laser rust removal: rusty surface on the left, bare cleaned metal on the right – example image

Before / after – rust gone, metal bare

The laser removes rust, scale and paint in a targeted way and exposes the bare metal – without blasting media and without mechanically attacking the surface.

The laser cleans contactlessly and without blasting media – suitable for surfaces from approx. 1 mm thickness. For very thin or extremely heat-sensitive substrates we advise you; here dry ice blasting is sometimes the gentler alternative.

Metals & stainless steel

Steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and cast: remove rust, scale, oxidation, weld discolouration and flash rust – without attacking the base material.

Paint stripping – above all metal

Reliably remove old paints, coatings, powder coatings and primers from metal. On wood only after a test, since the fiber laser introduces heat.

Grease, oil, soot & residue

Degrease precision and industrial parts; remove oil, release agents, adhesive and rubber residue as well as soot and carbon deposits.

Engine, machine & tool parts

Engine parts, cylinder heads, gearboxes, casting and injection moulds and tools – often cleaned directly on the part without disassembly.

Stone, natural stone & sculptures

Metal is the laser’s strength. Stone, natural stone and sculptures only after a test (heat input/discolouration) – here dry ice blasting is often the gentler choice.

Activate & prepare surfaces

Roughen and activate before welding, bonding or coating – for a clean, defined surface and the best adhesion.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What can the laser clean?

Rust, paint, scale, oxide, oil and grease layers, coatings and weld seams – above all on metal and stainless steel. Stone and wood only after a test. Cleaning is contactless and without blasting media.

Can I clean stainless steel with the laser?

Yes. Oxidation, weld discolouration, grease and light contamination are removed residue-free without attacking the stainless steel.

Can I clean stone, natural stone or sculptures?

Metal is the core application. We only clean stone, natural stone and sculptures after a test, because a 2 kW fiber laser introduces heat and can cause discolouration. Here dry ice blasting is often the gentler solution.

Can I strip paint from wood with the laser?

Paint can be removed from wood, but only after a test – the fiber laser introduces heat and can scorch delicate woods. For sensitive surfaces we recommend dry ice blasting.

Can I clean engine and machine parts?

Yes. Engine parts, cylinder heads, gearboxes, moulds and tools can often be cleaned directly without disassembly.

Can I clean aluminium, copper or brass?

Yes. Non-ferrous metals can also be freed of oxidation, grease and coatings.

How thick must the material be?

As a rule from approx. 1 mm thickness. Very thin or heat-sensitive surfaces we discuss beforehand.

Does the laser remove every paint and coating?

Practically all common paints, coatings, powder coatings and primers can be removed from metal and wood.

Laser cleaning or dry ice blasting – which is better?

The laser is precise and ideal for heat-resistant, metallic surfaces and uses no blasting media. Dry ice blasting is the gentle choice also for sensitive or non-metallic substrates. We offer both and advise what fits.

What protective equipment do I need?

The laser is laser class 4. Laser safety goggles matching the 1080 nm wavelength are mandatory, the laser area must be enclosed (mobile safety screens, warning lights), plus protective gloves. A safety package can be rented along with it.

What power supply does the device need?

230 V, 32 A CEE, power draw approx. 6.5–8 kW. If no suitable site power is available, a mobile diesel generator (10 kVA) can be rented in addition.

Can I work mobile and off-grid?

Yes. With the matching generator (230 V, 32 A CEE, 10 kVA) you work independently of the mains on the construction site or on location.

Do I need training?

Yes – you receive the mandatory safety and operating instruction (€120 net, one-time) at our yard in Hanhofen. For regular operation of a class 4 laser a laser safety officer is additionally recommended (§ 5 OStrV / DGUV 303-005).

Is an instruction required before the first rental?

Yes. Before the first rental a one-time device and safety instruction for €120 net is mandatory (not included) – at our yard in Hanhofen. It only needs to be completed once; for follow-up rentals it is no longer required. It does not replace the laser safety officer and the risk assessment in your own business.

Am I a laser safety officer after the instruction and may I start straight away?

No. The device and safety instruction shows you the safe operation of this device. It replaces neither a laser safety officer (LSO) nor the risk assessment, the definition of the laser area and the (annual) instruction in your own business. As the operator (employer at the place of use) you are responsible for these (OStrV, TROS Laserstrahlung, DGUV 303-005). We advise you and provide the relevant documents.

What do I need in order to rent the laser?

To rent, you need a laser safety officer (LSO) in your business. If none is available, the LSO must be trained before the rental. You present the proof (written appointment / course certificate) before handover. We are happy to arrange a suitable LSO course.

Do I need an air compressor?

A small air compressor is needed to cool the laser lens. It is already included in the rental price of the laser cleaner.

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum rental period is 3 working days.

What accessories can I rent in addition?

Extension cables for the power supply, extensions for the air line, plus safety equipment such as laser safety goggles, protective gloves and mobile free-standing safety screens – all on request.

Do you deliver the device or do I collect it?

Pickup and instruction always take place at our yard in Hanhofen (except in exceptions). As a rule we do not offer delivery.

How fast does the laser clean?

That depends on the material and degree of contamination. We advise you based on your specific application and can demonstrate the device.

Can the device also weld and cut?

Technically the device is a 3-in-1 system. However, only the cleaning mode is rented out.

Which materials are not suitable?

Limits apply to very thin (below approx. 1 mm) or extremely heat-sensitive surfaces and some delicate plastics. In such cases we advise you – often dry ice blasting is the gentler choice.
